No matter what our childhood was like or how we were raised, we all have something from our past we have to deal with and get over. For some people, the issues are serious and may never be fully overcome. For others, we had to grow up and learn how to deal with life, whatever that may mean.

No one goes to hell for masturbating. I’m about as irreverent as they come, and while I respect other people’s right to believe (mostly) what they want to believe, I’m calling bullshit on the ongoing perpetuation of the lies about masturbation.

There are people who believe, preach, and teach things like this:

“The clitoris is the devil’s doorbell.”

“Women: save your soul, don’t touch your hole.”

“Is a moment of pleasure worth an eternity in hell?”

If my clit is the devil’s doorbell, I say DING-DONG, baby! And frankly, she looks smokin’ hot in that image (in a good way) and like she’s feeling no pain, so really, ring that doorbell all you want. By the way, that’s not my “hole.” I’ve read enough erotica to know the proper term is “love channel.”

What could possibly be wrong with masturbation?

Then, of course, there’s the billboard that says, “You can’t hold hands with God if you’re masturbating!” And why the hell not? I hold hands with my Dominant when I masturbate. Surely God’s not so squeamish as to need some distance?

Oh, and if you’re not feeling really awful about yourself and worried that God, who’s supposed to be watching over sick babies, cancer patients, and everyone else requesting prayers on Facebook, you can also watch a 30 minute video all about the “Sin of Masturbation.” If you sit through it, you’re a better person than I am. I read the text, looked at the comments, and thought, “I can’t even.” (And I don’t even know what that expression means.)

If shouting in all caps, creepy artwork, and lumping masturbation and homosexuality in the same evil category (which sounds like a fun time to me) is more your thing, you can go wait for the rapture with this guy.

Masturbation is really, really healthy

This idea that masturbation is somehow wrong or sending us all straight to hell is a lie perpetrated by those who want you to be ashamed, who seek to control you, and frankly are a bunch of hypocrites.

Here’s the deal - if you don’t want to masturbate, I encourage you to reconsider, but your body is your own and you can do what you want with it - or not do what you don’t want with it. Masturbation isn’t evil. Scientifically speaking, it’s good for you. Masturbation relieves stress, makes you feel good, and helps you sleep better. I encourage all healthy people, single or not, to masturbate.

Don’t let anyone, especially the people who claim to speak on God’s behalf but do nothing to actually to help their fellow man or show brotherly (or sisterly) love, make you feel ashamed for doing something completely natural.

How many different ways can people tell you masturbation will send you right to hell? Who knows. But I can tell you that if on the off chance these people are right, hell is going to be either a rockin’ place with lots of fun, or very quiet as we’re all in a corner ringing our own personal doorbells. Poor Satan is going to be one busy fallen angel once we all get down there.
