There aren't many people who haven’t heard of Tinder. Even if you haven’t used it yourself, you probably know plenty of people who have. But just in case you've been living in a cave on your own for the past three years, Tinder is an app designed for online dating, or more specifically, those looking for a quick way to hook up with a fuck buddy. Swipe right if you think someone's hot, swipe left if you don't, but either way you'll be surprised how much this free dating app has to offer.
Tinder is fast, easy to use and very convenient. What’s more, it’s completely free to use and doesn’t have any of those annoying pop-up adverts that usually clutter free dating websites. You simply download the app on your smart phone or tablet and it accesses your Facebook account to log in. Once logged in, it uses GPS technology to find other users in your area. You are shown a photo of each user, as well as their first name, age and any shared interests and mutual friends you may have (according to your interests and friends on Facebook). You simply swipe left to reject someone and right to ‘like’ them. If someone likes you back, you are able to start a chat conversation with them, and the rest is up to you. This means you won’t end up getting lots of chat requests and messages from users you aren’t interested in, saving lots of time. Also, if you like someone who doesn’t like you back, they’ll never find out you liked them in the first place so it saves on the embarrassment of being rejected by someone you thought was attractive.
You can edit your settings to narrow down or expand the distance within which you would like to find a hook up, as well as change the age range of users you are shown and which gender they are. You can also edit your own profile to change what profile photo you have, although it has to be one from Facebook. Tinder is perfect for anyone looking for a quick hook up. It takes the time and hassle out of trying to find a like-minded fuck buddy.
Some may not like the fact that you have to use your Facebook profile to log in as there is no other way to sign up. Tinder doesn’t actually post anything to your Facebook profile, so it’s not like your mum, dad and boss are going to see who you’ve liked and rejected, but because the app shows other users within your area, it does mean that anyone you know who uses the app could find you quite easily. In the big wide world of online dating, it’s also very shallow- you really are liking and rejecting other members based purely on looks. However, this is obviously a plus point if you are looking for someone you find attractive enough to be a potential fuck buddy. You may also be disappointed if someone you particularly like doesn't like you back, or worse still, you aren't getting any matches. Because you aren't able to chat with anyone who hasn't liked you back, it's not like you can win people over with your charming personality.
It’s also not a great app for those who are looking for romantic dating and a serious relationship, as most people using the app are looking for an easy way to hook up.
Everyone you know! I signed up in order to do this review and whilst swiping through members (which is addictive, by the way) I came across so many people I know who I didn’t realise used the app.
Those who are looking for something more meaningful than a casual hook up should probably give Tinder a miss, but otherwise I say give it a go. I had loads of fun whilst using it to do this review and was impressed with how user friendly it is. If you’re looking for a convenient way to find a fuck buddy in your area, look no further than Tinder. It’s fast and free, easy to use and also great fun!
