FriendFinder is one of thousands of dating websites available to sign up to online. With so many competitors, it is important that such a website should stand out for the right reasons. Whether the website is aimed at sex dating for those looking for a fuck buddy, or takes a more romantic approach to appeal to those looking for a serious relationship, the website should make finding a potential match easier, whatever your lifestyle. So is FriendFinder a dating website that does this?
What does FriendFinder get right?
The website is easy to sign up to and it is free to create an account, although what you can actually do with a free account is extremely limited. There is a ‘magazine’ section on the site, which you can use with a free membership and this has lots of articles and blogs written by other members, which contain lots of advice on all aspects of sex dating and relationships. There is also a ‘chat’ section on the website, where you can enter chat rooms or use the instant messenger option to contact other members who are also currently in those chat rooms.
What does FriendFinder need to improve?
Unfortunately, there is more to review badly about this website than there is to review well. Dating websites that claim to be free, but actually require you to pay a membership fee to use the site successfully, are a pet peeve of mine. I fail to see the point of having a ‘free’ account if you cannot then use that membership successfully. While you can search through other members, once you find one that takes your fancy you cannot look through their entire profile or contact him/her as you need to upgrade to a paid membership in order to do so. Sure, there is the option to contact other users in the free chat rooms or instant messenger, but you are limited to who is actually online in those rooms at the same time as you. While I was in the chat room, there were only 16 other members in there and unless you’re not really fussy, chances are that with so few people available to contact, you probably won’t find one that gets your heart racing.
Another downside of FriendFinder is the layout of the website- in my opinion, they haven’t put a huge amount of effort into making it look like something special- it really doesn’t stand out from most of the other dating websites out there. As with so many of these websites, there are lots of menu options which when clicked on lead to more menu options, and there is just too much going on.
Lastly, it is not very clear who FriendFinder's target community is; whether it is aimed at people looking for a fuck buddy, or those who want to find a serious love match. If you have a busy lifestyle and limited time then you’re much more likely to find a dating website that is clearly aimed at one or the other- no one wants to waste their time getting to know someone who could be a potential fuck buddy, only to find they want something more meaningful. Overall this website just doesn’t try hard enough to impress in such a competitive market.

The users of this website are exactly the kind of people you’d expect to find on a dating website- just normal people looking to find a lover, a fuck buddy or a relationship, whether short term or long term.
Is it worth signing up?
Everyone’s experience will be different, and there are plenty of people who are happy and willing to part with their cash in order to find their perfect buddy. However, I would say that there are better dating websites out there, both free and that you pay for, which offer a lot more than FriendFinder does. It may be that once you upgrade to a paid membership this website becomes a lot better and is worth the money, but quite frankly I was not willing to take the risk to find out.
