Podcasts are a great alternative to TV and many are beginning to enjoy a cult status. Horror sitcoms like Welcome to Night Vale and gritty non-fiction accounts like ‘Serial’ are fuelling their popularity, but there are far lustier broadcasts to discover. Shows with a steamier edge are ideal as a sweet bedtime sedative, an anti—boredom device on long journeys, or to satisfy your inner sex geek. So get inspired, educated, and tickled, with these five sex-positive podcasts.

Polyamory weekly

If you look at the world from a healthy non-monogamous position, then this pansexual podcast will be just right for you. Cunning Minx delivers Poly Weekly as part guide and part shared experience project, enabling people with an interest in their sexual desires and poly potential to feel supported. This is a no-nonsense show with podcasts like ‘How not to be a douche on Fetlife’ or ‘Kicking poly drama in its ass’ demystifying the lifestyle for poly-curious people, alongside other more serious topics, like supporting poly families who risk losing their children. Find out more and check out the feedback on Cunning Minx’s website, at her busy Facebook page or via Twitter.

Savage lovecast

Having grown from a sex-advice column in a local Seattle newspaper, this LGBT friendly podcast is one of iTunes top 50 broadcasts. The show consists of a phone-in where the host, Dan Savage, gives advice, inspiration and hope where needed, to listeners of any sexual orientation. Expect calls from straight guys who can’t get their wife into sloppy blow jobs, sex addicts with a sore penis and even scared gay kids wanting to escape from an abusive environment. New Savage Lovecast episodes come out every Tuesday in two versions, the shorter micro episodes which are free, and the longer magnum episodes with nearly an extra hour of material. Catch Dan’s latest words of wisdom at Facebook , on his YouTube channel or on Twitter.

Guys we fucked

Billed as an anti-slut-shaming podcast this raucous event is focussed on empowering women to do who and what they want, whenever they feel like doing it, without shame or judgement. Your two hosts Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson are comedians, collectively known as Sorry About Last Night and they’re hoping to create a more sex positive global community ‘one candid story of intercourse at a time.’ Guys We Fucked includes interviews with their past lovers, special guest stars and fun questions like ‘Watching Sybil made you stick a hairbrush up your vag’ or ‘Would you fuck a girl in a wheelchair?’ Check this sex-positive podcast out at the above link at SoundCloud or head to Facebook for updates on their live gigs.

Open source sex

Teetering somewhere between erotica and smart sex ed, the Open Source sex-positive podcast was only curated by outspoken writer Violet Blue up until 2011, but there’s still a fantastic archive to explore. Starting in 2005, Blue is generally considered to have been the first female podcaster and was even mentioned in an early Wired magazine article, discussing the ‘grassroots rebellion called podcasting’. The broadcasts cover many bases, from women as viewers and participants in the porn industry, to female anatomy and plenty of juicy sex positive erotica. The tone stays naughty rather than preachy, she explains: “It’s just as alright to say you dislike something or even laugh at it as it is to be turned on by it.” Her regularly updated webpage is also a great resource for anyone with a sex positive attitude, catch her there, or try her Twitter feed and Facebook page for the latest Open Source Sex news.

Sex Nerd Sandra

With an emphasis on the scientific side of human sexuality, Sex Nerd Sandra is the friendly host and educator of a nerdy sex-positive podcast. It’s been going strong for four years and has now been downloaded over 8 million times. You won’t find any done-to-death sexual investigations here; Sandra’s more interested in the unique and obscure, inviting her listeners to ‘laugh at our mating dance’. Recently she’s looked at how evangelical ideas about chastity affect our sense of self, explored a Venn diagram of sex and found out what it’s like to be genuinely asexual. Broadcasts go out every hump day, but if you can’t wait that long, find out what she’s got planned on her Twitter feed, by following her on Facebook or just download previous shows at iTunes.
